African Home was born out of a will to empower and a wish to embody the creative spirit that grows within an ever changing rainbow nation. As suggested in our name, our crafts reify an environment that is home to us and also reflect what it means to adopt a piece of our home into yours. Our constantly expanding range can now find a home in your living spaces, workplace and garden landscapes.

In addition to their decorative appeal, African Home creations signify the social and eco-friendly consciousness with which they have been produced.

Our philosophy is creative empowerment…

Marketing these products while continually developing new creations provides work for members of disadvantaged communities who battle high competition for scarce resources. We are committed to Fair Trade principles (http://www.wfto.com) ensuring that our artisans and crafts people are paid a fee that they regard as fair and equitable in terms of their effort and resources.

A fair trade business model is not a charity. Rather we are dedicated to offering financial support through capacity building. We nurture relationships with craftspeople; establishing a platform for sound business principles whilst always maintaining the human focus in this creative endeavour.

Partnerships are created through joint conceptualizing and decision-making. Designing and product development are enriching processes that challenge crafters’ technical skills while cultivating their creative thinking towards innovative income generation. Crafty Contemplations…

The newly transforming South Africa has a rich tapestry of crafts people working with a diverse, almost endless array of natural materials: Beads, wire, wood carvings, African textiles, clay and glass are simply the most prominent. The beauty of the traditional handicraft translates into contemporary design home ware and accessories.
